YouTube just announced a major monetization update coming in 2027, and new creators are probably NOT going to like it. Starting February 1st, 2027, the requirements for ad revenue will increase to 8,000 valid public watch hours in 12 months OR 20 million valid Shorts views in 90 days, along with 1,000 subscribers. For comparison, the current requirements are 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views. That means the road to YouTube monetization is about to become much harder for new creators.
