Description
Another impromptu analysis about “Hermeticism” analyzed in a utilitarian and systems theory lens. The analysis is framed around this statement and observation made in response to a Youtube comment:
“If you look up the definition of "hermetic," which of course shares a root with the esoteric discipline "Hermeticism," you will find that "hermetic" means something that is totally sealed and isolated from external influence, external information, or "intrusions from the external material reality," if you will. And here we get into the irony of ironies: within such a hermetically sealed, prison-like enclosure, one's priors can be infinitely and indefinitely re-affirmed. Meanwhile, outside of the box, material life and material existence goes on—often at the direction of hyper-rational, Machiavellian-types who create such hermetic structures for the purpose of deriving predictable utility from those members of the mass that are contained therein. Quite humorous, really.”
We also mention Julian Jayne’s Bicameral Mind and how it relates to the figurative versus literal understanding of language and the expansion of language via metaphor.
X Axis: Low vs. High Agency / External vs. Internal Locus of Control
Y Axis: Modality of Sense-Making: Literal vs. Figurative
Y’ Axis: Low vs. High Causal Depth/Resolution
Where Y and Y’ Axes Composite into: Delusional vs. Rational
