Description
Squid, octopuses and cuttlefish possess some of the most sophisticated nervous systems in the invertebrate world. But Caribbean reef squid may have evolved something even more remarkable: a complex system of visual communication.
On the reefs of Bonaire, researchers study rapid changes in color, skin patterns and body posture used during courtship, rivalry and mating. Some of these displays appear to carry consistent messages, raising a provocative question: could squid possess a form of language?
Alongside giant Pacific octopuses and captive cuttlefish, the film explores cephalopod intelligence, reproduction and the extraordinary adaptations that make these animals unlike almost anything else in the ocean.
