The 60GW Medog Hydropower Project: World's Most Extreme Construction

A massive hydropower project is under construction in the remote Yarlung Tsangpo gorge region of Tibet, China. The project began construction in July 2025 and is planned with an investment of around 1.2 trillion yuan. Its target is approximately 300 billion kWh of annual electricity generation. But the most fascinating part is the engineering challenge: building major hydropower infrastructure across extremely remote and rugged mountainous terrain.
