Description

Do your legs feel heavy, tired, cold, or uncomfortable when you walk? Sometimes these symptoms are simply blamed on aging—but persistent leg pain, cold feet, or difficulty walking can also be signs of peripheral artery disease (PAD), a condition involving reduced blood flow to the legs. In this video, we explore five nutrient-rich seeds that have been studied for cardiovascular or metabolic health: pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, chia seeds, black seed (Nigella sativa), and flaxseed. The most interesting evidence comes from a randomized controlled trial involving 110 people with peripheral artery disease. Participants who consumed 30 grams of milled flaxseed daily for six months experienced reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared with the control group. Researchers also observed substantial increases in alpha-linolenic acid and enterolignan levels. Importantly, this study does NOT prove that flaxseed clears blocked arteries or cures PAD. It shows a blood-pressure effect in a specific group of people with PAD. We'll also look at research involving magnesium, sesame, chia, and black seed—and separate promising findings from claims that still need stronger evidence. The goal isn't to replace medical treatment with food. Nutrition can support overall cardiovascular health, but people with peripheral artery disease may also need evidence-based medical treatment, cholesterol and blood-pressure management, smoking cessation, structured exercise, and sometimes procedures. Current AHA/ACC guidance emphasizes comprehensive PAD care and structured exercise. If you have persistent leg pain while walking, a foot that becomes unusually cold, pale or blue, non-healing sores, or sudden severe pain, seek medical evaluation promptly. 👍 If you found this information useful, subscribe for more evidence-based healthy-aging content and share this video with someone who may benefit. 00:00 🦵 Heavy, Cold & Tired Legs?
