You're a Liar – The Starliters – Catchy 1960s Girl Group Soul

You're a Liar by The Starliters is an upbeat 1960s girl group soul song inspired by classic Motown, Detroit Soul and vintage 60s soul, with tight female harmonies, handclaps, tambourine and an irresistible call-and-response hook. 🎵 You're a Liar – The Starliters He told Mary she was the only one. He told Betty the very same thing. And then he tried it again. Unfortunately for him... the girls started talking. You're a Liar turns a cheating boyfriend's carefully arranged love life into a playful, defiant 1960s girl-group soul anthem. Instead of crying over him, Mary, Betty, and their friend compare stories, discover the truth — and end up laughing together. Inspired by the energy of 1960s girl groups, Motown-style soul, Detroit Soul, vintage soul music and classic oldies, the song combines an instantly memorable chorus with three-part female harmonies and a driving early-'60s dance beat. If you enjoy 60s soul, 1960s soul, oldies music, vintage music, female vocal groups and retro soul, You're a Liar brings a brighter, sassier side of the 1960s back to the jukebox. 🎙️ Music Style Upbeat early-1960s girl-group soul with a Detroit-inspired sound: driving tambourine, handclaps, lively piano, walking bass, sparkling glockenspiel accents and bright horn responses. Three female voices trade lead lines and come together in tight three-part harmony, building toward the infectious call-and-response hook: “You're a liar — yes, you're a liar!” 🎬 Creative Workflow The musical style, emotional mood, story and genre direction were chosen and developed by me and brought to life with Suno. The lyrics were personally written, refined and edited by me with particular attention to storytelling, phrasing and the classic girl-group character of the song. 📻 Subscribe to The Vintage Jukebox Radio for more original vintage-inspired music: https://www.youtube.com/@TheVintageJukeboxRadio?sub_confirmation=1 💿 Explore the Vintage Love Songs playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcBJzw0QgkeIjYmp4bjeWC-P7D07IRA3G&si=m3DHZMgK2v-zCgIL 🎵 Lyrics You're a Liar You told Mary she was the only one You told Betty she was your midnight sun You told me we'd never be apart Funny how you gave us all the same heart Three different girls Three different dreams One little secret bursting at the seams You're a liar Yes, you're a liar Every word was just a line You're a liar Yes, you're a liar Telling all of us the same sweet lies You're a liar Now everybody knows the truth tonight You took Mary dancing Saturday night You walked Betty home beneath the lights Then Sunday afternoon with me Thought we'd never compare our stories Three broken hearts One funny thing We started laughing when the phones all rang You're a liar Yes, you're a liar Every word was just a line You're a liar Yes, you're a liar Telling all of us the same sweet lies You're a liar Now everybody knows the truth tonight Now we're sitting here together And we're doing just fine The only one who's crying Is gonna be you this time You're a liar Yes, you're a liar Every word was just a line You're a liar Yes, you're a liar Telling all of us the same sweet lies You're a liar Now everybody knows the truth tonight You're a liar Yes, you're a liar And we're leaving you behind © 2026 Red Rickman Junior.
