Description

Juana la Loca, Queen of Castile, was said to keep her dead husband Philip the Handsome's coffin by her side and have it opened to gaze at his decaying corpse. In 1507 that story helped her own father, Ferdinand of Aragon, seize the regency of Castile, and historians still debate whether Joanna the Mad was truly insane or framed in a Spanish royal power grab.
