Description

In this episode I provide the history of the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, both built on GM's then-new Kappa platform in 2006. The concept was driven by Bob Lutz, who rejoined GM in 2003 as vice chairman, to provide a new roadster for Pontiac that would be priced at just under $20,000 USD. A year after the Pontiac debuted, the Saturn Sky was released, and was treated as the more luxury-themed roadster as compared to the Pontiac. There was also the Opel GT sold in Europe, and Daewoo G2X sold in South Korea, that were rebadges of the Sky. Sales were strong in its first year but dropped each year over the following three years, with the Sky selling half as many units as the Solstice. By 2009, with GM's bankruptcy bailout requiring the Pontiac and Saturn brands be discontinued, both the Solstice and Sky ended production in July 2009. https://www.revengeofthemanuals.com/ Background music by Nick Weiss - nickweissmusic.com
