Description

A fire does not need to burn all night to keep a cabin warm all night. In this video, I break down the old heating principle behind masonry heaters: burn dry wood hot and efficiently, capture part of that heat inside a heavy thermal mass, and let that stored heat continue radiating into the cabin long after the flames are gone. We also look at why simply forcing a log to smolder for hours is not the real solution, why dry firewood matters so much, how thermal mass changes the timing of heat delivery, and why a properly designed heater can continue releasing useful warmth for many hours without electricity. The $12 idea in this video is not presented as the price of a complete, safe masonry heater. It represents a low-cost way to understand the thermal-mass principle. A real heater requires proper firebox design, chimney construction, clearances, structural support, and safe installation.
