Description
Spartacus (71 BC) — How a Gladiator Led a Slave Army Against Rome
73–71 BC. Ancient Rome.
What began with 78 escaped gladiators in Capua became one of the greatest threats the Roman Republic had ever faced. Led by Spartacus, a former gladiator, the rebellion grew into an army of more than 100,000 men, defeating Roman commanders and humiliating the legions sent to stop it.
Rome's answer was Marcus Licinius Crassus, one of its wealthiest and most powerful men, with around 40,000 soldiers.
Crassus trapped Spartacus in southern Italy behind a massive fortification, believing the rebellion was finally over.
Then Spartacus broke through.
⚔️ In this cinematic documentary, you'll discover:
- How 78 gladiators sparked the Third Servile War
- Why Spartacus defeated multiple Roman armies
- How Crassus used decimation to restore discipline
- The pirate betrayal that left Spartacus stranded in southern Italy
- How thousands of rebels escaped Rome's fortifications
- Why Spartacus was forced into one final confrontation
- The brutal battle near the Silarus River
- How Spartacus fought toward Crassus before his final stand
- The brutal punishment Rome inflicted on the survivors
Spartacus fought at the front of his men and was killed in battle. His body was never recovered.
The rebellion ended, but his name became a lasting symbol of resistance against Rome.
