Description

In October 1991, the Perfect Storm takes shape when Hurricane Grace, a Canadian cold front and a low-pressure system near Sable Island converge in the North Atlantic. As the storm turns toward New England, forecasters track rapidly rising seas while mariners face conditions that overwhelm boats and complicate rescue operations. Weather buoy readings and firsthand accounts connect the storm’s formation to the struggle offshore. Coast Guard crews battle to save stranded sailors, while the cutter Tamaroa fights through breaking waves to reach a downed Air National Guard helicopter crew. The disappearance of the Andrea Gail exposes the limits of rescue in a rapidly changing ocean.
