Description

The Holy Land is the busiest crossroads in world history. This history documentary tells the entire history of Israel, Palestine, and Jerusalem, from ancient history and Bible history to 2026. Seen from space, it is a crack in the Earth's crust, with the lowest dry land on the planet at the bottom and a strip of land about 50 miles wide beside it: the hallway between Africa and Asia. No great river, no gold, yet more than half of humanity belongs to a faith that calls it holy. This documentary follows the full history of the Holy Land: the oldest evidence of cooking on Earth, Neanderthals and Homo sapiens in the caves of the Levant, Jericho, the Canaanites, the curse that first named Jerusalem, the birth of the alphabet, Thutmose III at Megiddo, the original Armageddon, the Philistines, the House of David inscription, Herod and the Western Wall, the garden beneath the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Colosseum built with Jerusalem's spoils, the Dome of the Rock, the Crusades and Saladin, the Ottoman Status Quo and the Immovable Ladder, the silver star of Bethlehem and the Crimean War, the officer who tunneled along the Temple Mount and then hunted Jack the Ripper, the revival of Hebrew, the mayor who tried to surrender Jerusalem to two army cooks, 1948, Israel's independence and the Nakba, the Jewish exodus from Arab lands, the Six-Day War, October 7, the Gaza war, and the Holy Land in 2026. The land kept losing. Its ideas kept winning: the alphabet, the Bible, and the idea of one God outlived every empire that tried to own this strip. But its oldest problem is also its newest. It is still a crossroads, and today two peoples of roughly equal size both intend to stay, praying at holy places built on top of each other's. This documentary is based on archaeological discoveries, peer-reviewed research, and primary historical sources. Contested figures are attributed to their sources. We help bring history to life while remaining faithful to the historical record. SOURCES Zohar, I. et al.
