Description
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, remnants of Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel triggered widespread flash flooding and high winds across the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding regions in the Southwestern United States.
The record-breaking rainfall submerged major roadways, flooded lower-level parking structures along the Las Vegas Strip, and prompted emergency water rescues. Hardened desert terrain prevented ground absorption, leading to rapid runoff that overwhelmed local storm channels and disrupted highway transit into California. High wind gusts also downed utility lines and caused ground delays at Harry Reid International Airport.
In this video, we examine the rapid flash flooding across the Las Vegas Valley, the record rainfall measurements, the meteorological origins of Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel, and the broader regional weather impact across the American West.
Global Weather covers natural disasters and extreme weather events as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
