Description
We keep our 2,500 sq ft house clean, organized and decluttered in about 3 hours a week — and it's not because I clean fast. It's because of a few German minimalistic habits that mean the mess never really builds up in the first place.
Growing up in Germany, nobody in my family did a big Saturday deep clean. There was no cleaning caddy full of specialty sprays, no color-coded organizing bins, no "reset your whole house" weekend and cleaning schedule. Things just got put back. Every day. Quietly. And somehow the house stayed calm.
When I moved to the US, I noticed how much cleaning here is treated as a project — something you schedule, buy products for, and recover from. In Germany it's more like brushing your teeth. Small, boring, constant, almost invisible.
In this video I'm sharing the habits behind it:
• Why "put it back" beats "organize it later"
• The German idea of "Ordnung" — and why it's about calm habits, not perfection
• How owning less and living minimalistically quietly cuts your cleaning time in half
• The short daily cleaning routines that make the weekend free
This isn't about having a perfect home. We have two kids, a normal life, and plenty of days where things pile up. It's about building a house that mostly takes care of itself, so your time goes somewhere better than housework.
