Description

At 69, TD Jakes I can't Take It Anymore, I'm REVEALING IT ALL!'' November 2024. At The Potter’s House in Dallas, T.D. Jakes stood at the center of the room. Something happened there. The world wouldn’t hear about it for months. Within weeks, a second storm was building, this one in a federal courtroom. Now, at 69, he is telling the story himself, and the church he led for nearly thirty years has a new face in the pulpit. It all started with one moment. Before the stadiums, the television cameras and the Dallas skyline, there was a kid in West Virginia. Thomas Dexter Jakes was born on June 9, 1957, in South Charleston, West Virginia, and grew up in nearby Vandalia. That makes him 69 years old today. When you see him on a stage in a perfectly tailored suit, it’s easy to forget how small this story started. His father, Ernest Jakes Sr., ran a janitorial business. His mother, Odith, was a teacher. It was a hardworking home, and the family had to deal with something heavy. His father became seriously ill with kidney disease while Thomas was still a teenager. Jakes has talked about those years for decades, about being the young man in the house watching his dad fade, and about how that experience shaped the way he thinks about pain and survival.
