Description
Britain’s HS2 high-speed railway is being built by a hidden industrial system spread across hundreds of construction sites. Temporary factories manufacture massive bridge segments, precast tunnel sections and station components, while 2,000-ton tunnel boring machines build finished tunnels underground. Giant bridges are assembled beside live roads and railways, then pushed or carried into position, as logistics hubs move millions of tons of earth without flooding cities with trucks. With 350 active sites and 31,000 workers, HS2 shows how modern railway engineering turns entire landscapes into factory floors. But the biggest surprise is what happens afterward: machines, yards, haul roads and even a newly built logistics tunnel disappear once their job is done.
