Description
Denied SNAP over 60? Your "no" may have been measured against last year's numbers, or against the wrong income test. Here are 8 SNAP (food stamps) rules for seniors 60+ that could change your answer, updated for the October 1, 2026 numbers.
If you've ever been told you make too much for food assistance, watch this before you give up. Households with someone 60 or older are held to a different income test, bigger deductions, and a higher savings limit, but none of it is applied unless you ask. We walk through the rules, a real-numbers example, and exactly what to say when you apply.

HOW WE RESEARCHED THIS
We checked every figure in this video against official sources: the USDA's FY2027 SNAP cost-of-living memo (effective Oct 1, 2026 to Sept 30, 2027), the federal SNAP regulations, USDA's guidance on the new work rules, and CMS for the 2026 Medicare Part B premium. We corrected numbers that didn't match, and we left out anything we couldn't confirm. Every state runs its own SNAP program, so your state office has the final say on your case.
