Inside the 1987 Atlanta Prison Riot - Hostages, Tunnels and Silverstein

Fire, chaos and nearly 100 lives on the line. This is the inside story of the 12‑day 1987 Atlanta federal prison uprising and the FBI’s tightrope between force and negotiation. From the first factory blaze and seized radios to acetylene tanks in the tunnels, every move raised the stakes. Watch Special Agent Dee Rosario fight to calm a crowd ready to ignite hostages after a TV report aired at the worst moment, while Danny Colson and Leon Blakeney crawl the labyrinth below. See why rescuing 16 staff from E Block was greenlit but the hospital extraction wasn’t, how a single American inmate—Thomas Silverstein—became a tipping point, and the startling way prisoners subdued him with a spiked fruit cocktail. And discover the quiet shift that led to surrender without a shot fired. If you think you know hostage negotiations, this will change the way you see timing, leverage and restraint. Watch to the end for the decision that unlocked a peaceful outcome. #FBI #TheFBIFiles #AtlantaPrisonRiot #HostageNegotiation #TrueCrimeDoc #DeltaForce #ThomasSilverstein
