War Drama | Richard Arlen | Aerial Gunner | A Mission Under Pressure | Full Movie

Aerial Gunner (1943), directed by William H. Pine, stars Chester Morris, Richard Arlen, and Amelita Ward. Its ensemble also includes Robert Mitchum, and the film combines action, drama, romance, and World War II aviation. Old rivals Jon Davis and Foxy Pattis are assigned to the same aerial gunnery school. They face a demanding course and continue competing after Peggy Lunt enters their lives, but training forces them to set aside their prejudices and learn trust and division of responsibility. Both men want to prove that they are better suited to responsibility. Their instructors use a series of exercises to show that real ability depends on calm judgment and teamwork. Peggy adds warmth to the training story while making their relationship more complicated. Among aircraft, maps, and training grounds, Jon and Foxy gradually become dependable partners. Their disagreements do not disappear immediately, but shared classes and assignments help each see the other's strengths. Friendship, aviation training, and romance develop together in this brisk portrait of young people in the 1940s.
