Description

#DarkMatter #JamesWebb #BigBang The James Webb Space Telescope was built to confirm how galaxies formed. Instead, it has begun to undermine that story. Over the past three years, JWST has returned data that even its own designers struggle to explain. Galaxies of around ten billion solar masses appear when the universe was under 500 million years old. Mature, rotating disk galaxies show up in an era that should have been chaotic. Supermassive black holes weighing millions of suns sit inside galaxies far too small to account for them. To the public, each finding has been presented as a marvel. Within the field, the same results are discussed in terms like crisis, tension, and revision. This video covers what the press releases softened and what the peer-reviewed papers actually say. It starts with the 2023 Labbé et al. paper in Nature on surprisingly massive early galaxies, then moves to the UHZ1 black hole found by Chandra and JWST, the "little red dots" that don't fit expectations, the broader Hubble tension, and four decades of dark matter searches that found nothing. Together, the evidence suggests something larger than a puzzle about galaxy formation. The standard cosmological model, Lambda Cold Dark Matter, has been under quiet strain for years, and JWST has made that strain hard to ignore. This isn't a conspiracy theory, and it isn't doom. It's what working scientists say when they aren't translating for the cameras. It may also mark one of the biggest turning points in physics since the pre-Copernican worldview fell apart. We built a ten-billion-dollar telescope to see the beginning of everything. What it found may be the end of a story we'd been telling ourselves. Sources include peer-reviewed work in Nature and the Astrophysical Journal Letters, plus coverage from Scientific American and Quanta Magazine, reporting on the Hubble tension, findings from the JADES and CEERS surveys, and the continuing null results from direct dark matter detection experiments. #JamesWebb #JWST #Cosmology #Astronomy #Space #DarkMatter #BigBang #Physics
