Staring Down the Barrel: The Salford Gangland Takedown

On a quiet Tuesday afternoon in Salford, a routine patrol by the Challenger Team turned into a deadly face-off. When plain-clothes officers attempted to stop Jay Conway—a career criminal out on licence—he fled through Albert Park on a hijacked bike. What followed on Great Clowes Street was a cop's worst nightmare: a failed Taser, a split-second mechanical glitch, and a neighbourhood officer staring down the barrel of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol. This is the full story of the 24-hour manhunt, the high-tech digital forensic trace, and the armed raid in Whalley Range that brought down one of Salford's most volatile targets.
