The LAPD Murder Mystery: How a Detective Killed Sherri Rasmussen

She reported her stalker to the police. Her stalker was already on the police force. Twenty-three years later, a bite mark solved what the system refused to. CALIFORNIA 1986 | The Sherri Rasmussen Case Sherri Rasmussen was a twenty-nine-year-old nursing director, newly married, with everything ahead of her. Her husband's ex-girlfriend wouldn't let go. Sherri documented the harassment. She went to the LAPD to report it. Nothing happened — because the woman she was reporting was a fellow officer. Months later, Sherri was found dead in her home. The scene was staged to look like a burglary. Investigators ruled it exactly that. Her father, Nels Rasmussen, spent over two decades telling them they were wrong. He was right. A cold case unit eventually ran DNA from a bite mark on Sherri's arm. The match came back to a decorated LAPD detective who had worked in the same building as the investigators trying to solve the case she committed. Her name was Stephanie Lazarus. She was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to twenty-seven years to life. 🔔 Subscribe for new cold case documentaries every week. 👍 Like if this case deserves to be remembered.
