Description

📘 Get the guide → The exact forms, phone scripts, and deadlines Social Security, Medicare, your bank & the IRS never explain in plain English: https://www.franklinlaw.shop Your feed is full of one date right now, October 1, and almost everything you're hearing about it points in the wrong direction. So here's the honest answer first. On October 1, your Social Security check doesn't change. Your Medicare card still works. Your Part B premium doesn't move because of this law. If you're an American citizen on Medicare, almost nothing in it is aimed at you directly. But a law doesn't have to be aimed at you to land on you. This one reaches past you, into the people around you: your son on Medicaid, the daughter who gave up her job to care for you, the neighbor at church who came here as a refugee, your mother in a nursing home, your doctor. And when it reaches them, the cost has a way of finding its way back to one kitchen table. Yours. I'm Franklin. I read the rules so you don't have to. Today we walk through your household one person at a time: what reaches each of them, when it arrives, and the one thing to do about it. 🔹 YOU: What is NOT happening. No cut to your benefit, your timing, or your cost-of-living raise. And nothing in this law asks you to verify, re-enroll, or pay anybody. Every call claiming otherwise is a scam. 🔹 YOU: The money on a timer. A new deduction of up to $6,000 per person 65+ ($12,000 per couple), even if you itemize, running only through the 2028 tax year. The forward-looking question to ask your preparer. 🔹 YOU: The door that didn't open. A rule that would have automatically enrolled people in the program that pays your Part B premium was paused for years. About 1.3 million qualifying seniors will miss out unless they apply themselves. 🔹 YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER ON MEDICAID: Work requirements of 80 hours a month for adults 19 to 64, eligibility checks every six months instead of yearly, and retroactive coverage cut to one month for expansion adults and two for most others. 🔹 THE PERSON CARING FOR YOU: The caregiver exemption is real, but it has to be claimed and documented. How to become their authorized representative. 🔹 YOUR NEIGHBOR AT CHURCH: Refugees, asylees and others admitted on humanitarian grounds lose Medicaid eligibility October 1, and Medicare on January 4. Free legal help for people 60+ exists in every state. There is no fix that costs money. 🔹 YOUR PARENT IN A NURSING HOME: The federal minimum staffing rule is suspended into 2034. The three questions that tell you more than the carpet ever will. 🔹 YOUR DOCTOR: A possible cut of up to 4% to what Medicare pays providers, still unresolved. It doesn't touch your benefit, but it can affect who takes new Medicare patients. 🔹 YOUR OWN PRESCRIPTIONS: Open enrollment runs October 15 to December 7, the one date in all of this with your name on it. 💡 BOTTOM LINE: This law lands in pieces, on different people, on different days, so nobody sees the whole shape of it. Don't ask whether it affects you. Ask who it reaches in your household, and have that conversation this month. 📅 DATES THAT MATTER: Medicaid changes for certain lawfully present immigrants: October 1 Medicare open enrollment: October 15 to December 7 Medicaid work requirements begin: December 31 (states may get extensions to 2028) Six-month Medicaid renewals and retroactive coverage changes: January 1 Medicare termination for certain lawfully present immigrants: January 4 Senior deduction available: tax years 2025 through 2028 📞 FREE HELP (NOBODY SELLING ANYTHING): Find your Area Agency on Aging and free legal help for 60+: eldercare.acl.gov | 1-800-677-1116 Free, independent Medicare counseling (SHIP): shiphelp.org Medicare: 1-800-633-4227 | medicare.gov Social Security: 1-800-772-1213 | ssa.gov SOURCES: Public Law 119-21 (the 2025 budget reconciliation law); Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; Congressional Budget Office estimates; Internal Revenue Service. Implementation dates can vary by state. Figures are current at the time of recording and can change. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for plain-English breakdowns of the laws and rules that quietly decide what families keep. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video is for general educational purposes only and is not legal, tax, financial, or benefits advice. Medicaid rules and implementation timelines vary by state. Always confirm your own situation, or a family member's, with your state Medicaid office, a free SHIP counselor, or a qualified professional before acting. 👨‍👩‍👧 SHARE WITH FAMILY: This law reaches through households. Send it to a son or daughter on Medicaid, a caregiver, or anyone you know who came here as a refugee. #SocialSecurity #Medicare #Medicaid #SeniorFinance #BigBeautifulBill #MedicaidWorkRequirements #SeniorDeduction #MedicareSavingsProgram #Caregiving #NursingHome #OpenEnrollment #FixedIncome
