Description
Nvidia's DGX Spark launched at $3,999. Today the same box costs $6,950. Over the same year, renting the same kind of AI from the cloud got 57% cheaper. In this video I put those two lines on one chart and work out what that means for anyone thinking about buying local AI hardware right now.
We go through the price tags (DGX Spark, RTX 5090, used RTX 3090, DDR5 RAM, Framework Desktop), why data centers can make tokens cheaper while memory gets more expensive (batching, explained with a pizza oven), the payback math at launch prices and today's prices, what happened when DeepSeek raised its prices, where Strata fits in, and the cases where owning your hardware still wins: dense models, private data, offline work and training.
At the end there's a one-minute test you can run before you buy anything.
Numbers are as of October 2026. Prices move fast, so check the current ones before you buy.
