Description

Credits: Australian Community Media, FRANCE 24 English, NDTV World, HAPP - Story Punch is a Japanese macaque born on July 26, 2025, at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan. Shortly after his birth, his mother rejected him, leaving zookeepers to raise him by hand. To comfort him, they gave him a stuffed orangutan toy to cling to, which quickly became his best companion. When Punch was introduced to the other monkeys, he struggled to fit in and was sometimes ignored or pushed around. Videos of him hugging his stuffed toy after being rejected went viral in February 2026, touching millions of people around the world. However, Punch's story has taken a much happier turn. By mid-2026, zoo officials reported that he was increasingly interacting and playing with other monkeys, gradually becoming more accepted by the troop. Although he had faced aggression from some monkeys, zookeepers closely monitored his safety and development. Punch celebrated his first birthday on July 26, 2026, and received thousands of messages from fans worldwide. While he may still face challenges as he grows up, his progress shows that the once-lonely baby monkey is learning to socialize and find his place among his own kind. . . .
