Brother Valentino: Celebrating the Voice, Vision, and Legacy of a Calypso Legend Anthony Emrold Phillip, known to the world as Brother Valentino, is a respected calypsonian celebrated for his powerful storytelling, social commentary, and dedication to the people. Known as the “People’s Calypsonian,” Brother Valentino used music to speak about justice, freedom, equality, and the struggles of ordinary people. His songs, including No Revolution and Stay Up Zimbabwe, reflected his courage and commitment to meaningful change. In September 2025, a tribute concert in Pleasantville, San Fernando, celebrated his contribution to calypso. Singer Roxy Singh honoured him with a performance of To Sir With Love, while Chris Morris called for greater recognition of his artistic and cultural achievements. In February 2026, the Trinidad Guardian also reported on a tribute recognising his decades of contribution to society. Brother Valentino’s music represents more than entertainment. It carries messages of consciousness, dignity, and hope. His influence continues to inspire calypso lovers and future generations. His remarkable contribution to Caribbean culture deserves to be celebrated and remembered.
