Description

How Japan Builds IMPOSSIBLE Megastructures In 1955, a ferry sank in Japan's Akashi Strait, killing 168 people, most of them schoolchildren — and the country spent the next four decades planning a permanent bridge to replace it. Construction on the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge began in 1988, and in 1995, while the towers were still rising, the Great Hanshin earthquake that devastated Kobe struck almost directly beneath the site — shifting the ground enough to add a full extra meter to the bridge's span mid-construction. This is the story of how engineers recalculated instead of rebuilding, finished the world's longest suspension bridge in 1998, and held that record for the next 24 years. 📌 Disclaimer This video is created for educational and informational purposes only.
