Description

James Webb Telescope REVEALS 3I/ATLAS is much bigger than we thought, and the new size has shocked astronomers. The interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, only the third confirmed visitor from another star system, has a nucleus about 2.6 km wide. That makes it far larger and heavier than earlier estimates, and tens of times more massive than Borisov, the second interstellar object ever found. In this video, we explain how scientists used data from the James Webb Space Telescope, Hubble, and SPHEREx to remove the glow of the comet’s dust cloud and measure its true size. We also cover its carbon dioxide-rich chemistry, its estimated age of about 7 billion years (older than our solar system), the heavy hydrogen (deuterium) found in its ice, and the surprise methane detected after it passed the sun. You will also learn what Avi Loeb said about possible signs of life, how the SETI Institute and Breakthrough Listen searched millions of radio signals for artificial signs, and why 3I/ATLAS never posed any danger to Earth. If you enjoy space and science explained in simple words, like the video, subscribe to the channel, and share your thoughts in the comments.
