Description

Tesla built 50,363 cars in three months that nobody took delivery of. That is not an estimate — it is a subtraction you can do yourself from Tesla's own Form 8-K, filed with the SEC on 2 April 2026: 408,386 produced, 358,023 delivered. The largest gap in the company's history. Those cars are sitting in parking lots, storage yards and leased tarmac across the United States, Canada, Australia and Britain. They are not broken. Most have never been driven. And the reason they are rotting has almost nothing to do with whether anyone wants them. This film follows the money and the law instead of the metal. Electric vehicles were not simply encouraged into existence — they were required. Britain set a share of sales that had to be electric, with a fine of up to £12,000 for every car missed. Canada drafted a rule demanding 20% of new passenger cars be zero-emission from 2026. Australia capped the CO2 a brand could average across everything it sold. So production was planned around compliance, not demand. Then the rules moved. The $7,500 US federal credit was repealed on 30 September 2025. Canada's iZEV rebate ran out of money in January 2025 and was confirmed dead that October. On 5 September 2025 Canada removed the 2026 model-year target altogether — after the cars had been built and shipped. We also look at the second pile, which formed for a completely different reason: the 25% tariff applied to vehicles assembled outside the United States in April 2025, and the imported cars that stopped being unloaded. And the part that makes the word "rotting" literal — why a three-year-old electric car with a dented floor gets written off when the cells underneath are almost certainly fine. One more thing, because it matters: this is NOT a story about the whole car industry drowning. In March 2026 the US industry held 2.89 million new vehicles at 79 days' supply, against a long-standing norm of about 75. Used-vehicle supply hit a RECORD LOW. Electric resale values actually improved. The ordinary car market is fine. That is what makes the full lots so strange — and we say so on camera. CHAPTERS 00:00 The 50,363 cars nobody took 01:06 Four countries, one photograph 02:18 The deal that built them 03:42 The day the money stopped 05:02 Canada changes the rule 06:19 The number in Britain's figures 07:46 Australia builds the pile on purpose 09:22 The ones that never left the dock 11:26 The cars that cannot be judged 13:17 Why nobody just drops the price 14:31 The part that does not fit 15:43 The mall in Michigan 17:39 What it costs to do nothing 18:28 The real question CORRECTIONS If any figure here is wrong, tell me in the comments with a source and I will pin the correction. Every number above was checked against a dated publication before it was voiced. #unsoldcars #evinventory #tesla #carindustry #cardocumentary
