Description
In 1970s Nigeria, one man ruled the streets of Mushin and Idi-Oro with absolute terror: Isiaka Busari, universally feared as Mighty Joe. Operating in the lawless aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War and stepping into the underworld power vacuum left by Ishola Oyenusi, Mighty Joe built a ruthless empire of extortion, street violence, and armed hijackings.
Supported by demobilized ex-soldiers and feared for his legendary "Black Friday" rituals, Mighty Joe believed he was completely untouchable. But his ultimate downfall didn't come from a multi-million-Naira heist—it came down to a trivial sum of just 10 Naira, a single brave witness, and the iron-fisted justice of Gowon’s Military Tribunal under Decree No. 47.
In this complete 17-minute documentary on AFRICAN FILES, we investigate the full rise, reign, and brutal 1973 Bar Beach execution of Nigeria’s most infamous underworld strongman. Was Mighty Joe truly the most dangerous criminal of his era, or was his execution a state-sponsored political cleanup?
