Vision’s MCU story began long before VisionQuest. Originally connected to J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence, Vision was born in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) when J.A.R.V.I.S. was integrated into the synthetic vibranium body Ultron had created for himself, powered by the Mind Stone. Vision immediately joined the Avengers and eventually developed a deep relationship with Wanda Maximoff. That relationship ultimately led to tragedy in Avengers: Infinity War. To stop Thanos from obtaining the Mind Stone, Wanda was forced to destroy it—and Vision along with it. Thanos then used the Time Stone to reverse the moment, resurrect Vision, and brutally kill him a second time by ripping the Mind Stone from his head. Years later in WandaVision, Wanda’s grief created another Vision inside the Westview Hex, while S.W.O.R.D. secretly reconstructed Vision’s original body and reactivated him as the emotionless White Vision. White Vision was initially programmed as a weapon, but after confronting Wanda’s recreated Vision and debating the Ship of Theseus, the memories of his former life were unlocked. Realizing the truth of his identity, White Vision declared “I am Vision” before flying away from Westview. VisionQuest finally continues that story. The Vision we see now possesses the memories of his former life, but memory alone has not restored the person he once was. Living with the history of Wanda, the Avengers, Ultron, J.A.R.V.I.S., his deaths, and his reconstruction, Vision is now searching for something far more difficult to recover: his identity and humanity.
