🔗 Find a watchful companion that fits your home, strength and life after 60: guardian.handoverbooks.com Bring home a dog you can manage through bad days, with 72 checks. A Golden Retriever can look like the easiest dog in the world from a distance. The warm face, the soft ears, the gentle reputation, and the familiar image of one resting quietly beside a family can make the choice seem settled before you ever meet the dog. But a real Golden is a substantial, active companion with a thick coat, a strong body, and a deep desire to stay close to its people. For older owners, the important question is not whether a Golden is a good dog. Many are loving, trainable, and wonderful company. The question is whether the particular dog, and the day-to-day work it requires, fit the life you actually live. That includes wet walks, loose hair, a leash in your hand, visitors at the door, and the difference between a dog that alerts you and a dog that truly provides protection. In this video, I lay out the parts of Golden Retriever ownership that are easy to admire and the parts that can become difficult after adoption. Here is what I cover: 1. Adult size, height, and the reality of handling 55 to 75 pounds 2. The double coat and why shedding becomes a household routine 3. Why many Goldens want to follow their person from room to room 4. The difference between a driveway alert and dependable guarding 5. Daily exercise needs, including twice-daily activity 6. Leash control around squirrels, birds, and sudden movement 7. The long, playful puppy stage that can continue into adulthood 8. Training, mouthiness, chewing, and the breed's gentle retrieving instinct A Golden Retriever may alert you to someone arriving, but breed reputation cannot guarantee protection, safe behavior, or an easy fit in every home.
