Description

Vocals & arrangement by Farya Faraji, viola de gamba by Carmel A. This is a Renaissance song showcasing a very simple, straightforward polyphonic style, with two parallel melodic lines harmonising with one another, and a bass line underneath. The song was often performed as an instrumental dance tune, accompanied by the strong percussive reality still found in European art music at that time. I'm using period reconstructed pronunciation, meaning some of the sounds differ as they are today, namely letters such as Z, which back then were pronounced with an S sound. The Rodrigo Martínez in question seems to be in reference to the 12th century Leonese nobleman of that name, who was known for his military deeds. Translation: Rodrigo Martinez at the wild geese,he!, thinking they were cows, he whistled. He! Rodrigo Martinez so handsome, your little geese the river carries away, he!, thinking they were cows he whistled at them, he! Rodrigo Martinez so strong, your little geese the ford carries away, he!, thinking they were cows, he whistled at them, he!
