Description

Millions of years ago, rivers, lakes and coastlines provided our ancestors with the resources they needed to survive—but these waters also concealed some of the most dangerous predators on Earth. This video examines four prehistoric aquatic predators that lived alongside early humans: Crocodylus anthropophagus, a crocodile linked to tooth marks found on hominin fossils; Enhydriodon omoensis, an otter that may have weighed around 440 pounds; Hemipristis serra, the giant snaggletooth shark; and Crocodylus thorbjarnarsoni, a crocodile that may have exceeded 23 feet in length. Fossil evidence confirms that our ancestors shared these environments with enormous predators, but did all of them actively hunt early humans? Discover what science reveals and decide which creature would have been the most terrifying to encounter.
