Description

WHO IS THIS MAN?! Mr M, the Bakkie & the 300 Recordings in the Sibiya Case! He could be one of the most important witnesses in one of South Africa’s biggest legal cases of the year. Yet his name remains hidden, his face unseen, and his role is at the centre of a bitter dispute. At the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, he is known only as “Mr M” — the father of the 16-year-old girl at the centre of the grooming charges against former Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya. According to the State’s version, Mr M worked as Sibiya’s bodyguard and was allegedly threatened after approaching the police. The defence, however, paints a very different picture, suggesting that a financial dispute fuelled his actions and that approximately 300 secret recordings form part of the wider dispute. So, who is Mr M? What allegedly happened on that night in May? What do the recordings contain, and why has his credibility become a point of contention during Sibiya’s bail proceedings? In this episode of The Sibiya Files, we examine the claims, the counterclaims, the alleged threats, the mysterious bakkie and the reported recordings — separating what has been reported from what remains disputed.
