Description

In October 2025 GM ended production of the BrightDrop electric van at its CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, and about 1,200 workers were affected. Almost a year later the plant still builds nothing, and more than a thousand hourly workers remain on layoff. Doug Brennan, a Canadian mechanic, walks through the three decisions that made it fatal: putting a whole plant behind one product, building that product for a market GM wasn't winning, and having no second product when it failed. He also covers where the public money stands, what GM's new union contract really gives Ingersoll, and what it means if you own a GM vehicle, a BrightDrop or just pay taxes in Canada.
