Description

The average litre of regular in Canada costs about 189 cents this week. Using AAA, the Bank of Canada exchange rate and Natural Resources Canada's weekly breakdown, Doug works out that Canadians pay roughly 25 cents a litre more than the American average. So where does the difference go? Doug splits the price into crude, refining, taxes and the station's cut, shows what changed since January (taxes went down, the refining margin more than doubled) and explains why Edmonton and St. John's can sit over 50 cents apart. He keeps what's documented apart from what isn't, with no finger pointing without evidence. Then the shop part: what actually saves fuel according to NRCan, the myths to skip, and what happens when the tax pauses end. What did you pay per litre this week, and in which town?
