Description
Donghu maglev construction: how engineers built a 1-kilometre underground track in Wuhan that accelerates a 1.1-tonne sled to 800 km/h in 5.3 seconds — the same speed as a commercial airliner, underground.
On November 24, 2025, the Donghu Laboratory broke the world ground speed record for the third time in six months. The engineering behind that 5-second run took years to build: 500 concrete piles driven 18 metres into limestone bedrock, 50 precast beams held to 0.5mm tolerance, 2,000 electromagnetic coils installed across 1,000 metres of sealed concrete tunnel, and 800 supercapacitors discharging 50 megawatts in exactly 5 seconds.
This documentary covers the full Donghu maglev construction and engineering process — civil structure, coil installation, vehicle fabrication, and test programme.
What's in this video:
Why the Donghu track was built for UAV launch and rocket acceleration — not passengers
How 500 bedrock piles and 50 carbon-fibre-tendon beams were built to 0.5mm tolerance across 1,000 metres
How 2,000 electromagnetic coils were installed in a sealed concrete tunnel over 6 months
How a 1.1-tonne carbon fibre sled with 320 neodymium magnets was built to levitate at exactly 12mm
How 800 supercapacitors were built and discharged in 5 seconds to hit 800 km/h
