Description

Learn to Read Hieroglyphs · Lesson 14: Khufu’s Birth Name 👑 **Khufu — “He protects me.”** Four signs write **ḫ–w–f–w**, conventionally read **Khufu**: the name of the king who commissioned the Great Pyramid at Giza. His fuller name, **Khnum-Khufu**, means **“Khnum protects me.”** The “he” refers to **Khnum**, the ram-headed creator god believed to shape human beings on a potter’s wheel. The familiar short name preserves that connection to divine protection, even though the god’s name is omitted. Save this lesson and practise reading the four signs from top to bottom. 🏛️ #Khufu #GreatPyramid #Hieroglyphs #AncientEgypt #BeautifulHistory
