Description

**ḏd-mdw**, conventionally read **djed medu**, is commonly translated as **“words spoken.”** This formula introduces speech and ritual recitation in ancient Egyptian inscriptions. Here, near the top of the **Luxor Obelisk in Place de la Concorde, Paris**, Ramesses II kneels before **Amun-Ra**, presenting offerings. The inscription introduces the words attributed to the god as he addresses the king. A few signs carved above the scene help us understand who is speaking. Save this lesson—you may recognise the phrase on your next museum or temple visit. 🏛️ #AncientEgypt #Hieroglyphs #LearnHieroglyphs #Egyptology #BeautifulHistory
