Description
What would you do if a stranger suddenly appeared at your campsite after dark? Would you welcome him, walk toward him, or keep your distance?
After 25 years guiding people through the Montana wilderness, I've learned that one small mistake during an unexpected encounter can put you in a dangerous position.
In this video, I'll share important wilderness safety lessons inspired by Native American history, traditional approaches to unfamiliar visitors, and my own experiences in the Rocky Mountains.
You'll learn why keeping your distance matters, how to recognize when someone is ignoring your boundaries, what to do when a stranger approaches your campfire, and how to help someone without putting yourself or your companions at risk.
I'll also share a personal experience that changed the way I handle unexpected visitors in the backcountry.
These lessons aren't about treating every stranger as dangerous. They're about staying calm, making wise decisions, and knowing when it's time to walk away.
If you value old-fashioned survival knowledge, Native American history, and practical wilderness safety, subscribe for more lessons from the mountains.
Have you ever encountered a stranger while camping? Share your experience in the comments, and tell me what you'd like to see in my next video.
