Description

A rider in a stolen Crown mask. A machine driven by the man it used to be. And three hundred guards cut loose over the homes of forty thousand people. In THE GLOOM — Episode 3, the Crown stops sending light down the pipe and starts sending something else: the Gloom’s own people, collared and fitted into walking engines that don’t need lanterns to see. The first one to arrive at the Shelves is a neighbour. He doesn’t remember his sister’s name. Above the cloud, Iris is no longer a prisoner. She is a specimen. The Institute puts her under the sun and watches her eyes turn green, and for the first time someone tells her — and us — what was done to the people below two hundred years ago, and why the tithe was never charity. Caspian Ashcombe climbs the tide drains to reach her and gets as far as a pane of glass. She can’t see through it. She knows he’s there. Below, a motorcycle comes up the ramp out of the dark. The man riding it was trained by the Crown, wore its mask, and stood in the Sun Court the day a courier named Rooke was blinded. He has been counting ever since. Then the Chancellor gives the order, and the hanging men come down. A cinematic steampunk dystopia set in a far-future London, where sunlight is piped like water, the eyes of the poor were built for the dark, and the man who rules the sky is hiding what his own look like. Part 3 of an ongoing series. Watch in order: Episode 1: https://youtu.be/hZBktTF60C8 Episode 2: https://youtu.be/dnmRgEj9ylQ Iris’s grandfather said he’d tell her where her mother came from. He’s going to say it in front of the Chancellor. What do you think she is? Theories in the comments — I read every one. 🎧 Best experienced with headphones. Watch in 4K.
