Below, he finds a canyon city of hanging trains and lantern-lit markets, a rising uprising, and a woman named Iris who catches the last fragments of daylight with a broken machine. Her eyes have adapted to the dark. His have not. But his descent was not the secret he thought it was. Someone above wanted him below — and the army that follows him down is only the beginning. A cinematic steampunk dystopia set in a far-future London, where sunlight is piped like water, the dead are recycled for their parts, and the machines that police the lower city carry human faces.
