Description
The Gold Claim Book: https://thegoldclaimbook.com
Not every rock on a gravel bar or a mine dump is safe to pick up, and most prospectors never learn which ones to avoid until it costs them. Some rocks carry toxic minerals that can get into your skin or your lungs, some give off dust that is harmful to breathe, some break into razor-sharp edges, and a few look so much like harmless stones that people handle them every day without a second thought. In this video I go through ten rocks and minerals every prospector should treat with caution: what each one looks like in the field, what makes it dangerous, and what to do when you come across it. I also cover the basic gear that protects you, like gloves, eye protection and a dust mask, and the simple habits that keep a day outdoors from turning into a trip to the doctor, such as washing your hands before you eat and never crushing an unknown rock without knowing what it is. I’m clear about what I know and what I don’t, because identifying a rock from a photo is never certain, so when in doubt, leave it alone. Learn these ten, and you can keep prospecting for years without paying for it with your health.
