Description

Every Soul Food Secret I Know, Written Down at Last. 150+ Recipes and Tricks: https://mamaodessa.com Subscribe for the soul food tricks, cast iron know-how and Sunday dinners that carried Black families in the South when they had next to nothing to work with. http://www.youtube.com/@odessamae This channel is my kitchen. I'm Odessa Mae, born and raised in Humphreys County, Mississippi, and I cook the way my mama and her mama did: cast iron, a full garden, nothing thrown out. Nobody wrote most of this down. I walk you through the wild greens, the one-pot suppers, the pot likker and the way we stretched one chicken across three days, and I tell you why we did it that way. Creative Process: I build each episode on research into Southern Black home cooking and the ways families in the Delta made a little food go a long way. I stay with the food people ate every week, and with the tricks that still work in a kitchen today. Editing Style: We set the story against period-inspired imagery, warm kitchen light and a soft nostalgic grade, so you feel like you pulled up a chair while the pot is still on the stove. Voiceover: We write and produce Odessa's narration for this channel alone, in her own first-person voice, with the patience and plain honesty of a grandmother who fed a house on very little.
