Indiana flash flooding has caused dangerous conditions across northeastern Indiana, USA, as intense thunderstorms and torrential rain flooded roads, stranded vehicles and triggered numerous water rescues. Bluffton and Wells County were among the hardest-hit areas, where rapidly rising floodwaters overwhelmed streets, homes, basements and low-lying areas. More than a dozen motorists were rescued from stalled vehicles in Bluffton as severe flooding made numerous streets difficult or impossible to navigate. Several inches of rain fell across the region, while emergency crews, volunteers and local residents worked to protect neighborhoods as floodwaters continued spreading across Wells County. Heavy rain and flash flooding also affected other parts of northeastern Indiana, including Adams and Huntington counties. Flooded roads and dangerous travel conditions were reported across the region as repeated thunderstorms brought torrential rainfall to communities including Bluffton, Huntington, Decatur, Berne and Geneva. As the heaviest rainfall eased, attention shifted toward swollen rivers, including the Wabash River near Bluffton and Linn Grove and the Saint Marys River near Decatur and Fort Wayne. Already saturated ground and elevated waterways remained important concerns as northeastern Indiana continued dealing with the effects of the flooding.
