Ask who defeated Nazi Germany and you get three different answers, depending on who you ask. The Soviet Union points to the Eastern Front, where the overwhelming majority of German military deaths occurred, and to its own losses of roughly 27 million. The United States points to the industrial output that equipped the entire Allied war effort, including Lend-Lease shipments to the USSR. Britain points to being there from 1939 and holding out alone through 1940. All three claims are true. What separates them is what each country had left when it was over.
