Description
Eight decades later, the LAPD still won't say why this file remains sealed — and a new claim in 2026 is forcing the question back into the open.
On January 15, 1947, the body of 22-year-old Elizabeth Short was discovered in a vacant lot in Leimert Park, Los Angeles — a murder the press soon nicknamed "the Black Dahlia" case. Despite one of the largest manhunts in LAPD history and over two dozen persons of interest questioned, no one was ever charged, and the case remains an open, unsolved homicide to this day.
This video covers the full case: Elizabeth Short's life before the headlines, the six-day gap investigators could never account for, the gasoline-cleaned envelope mailed to a Los Angeles newsroom, the suspects who were named but never charged, and what's actually happening with this cold case in 2026 — including a documentary team's disputed bloodstain claim and a public petition demanding the LAPD release Short's unredacted autopsy report.
Current case status: This remains an open, unsolved LAPD case. No case-specific reward has been publicly announced. Anyone with credible information is asked to contact:
LAPD Cold Case Homicide Special Section: 213-486-6810
LAPD Tip Line (after hours): 1-877-LAPD-24-7
LA Regional Crime Stoppers (anonymous): 1-800-222-TIPS / lacrimestoppers.org
We cover one unsolved case in depth every episode — the real timeline, the real suspects, and where each investigation actually stands today. Subscribe if you want the next cold case delivered the same way: no dramatization, just what's documented.
