Description
A rare look at Louis Daguerre (1787–1851), the French artist and inventor whose name became permanently linked with the birth of photography.
Daguerre developed the daguerreotype, the first widely used photographic process, publicly introduced in 1839 and instrumental in bringing photography into everyday life.
This remarkable daguerreotype portrait was made by E. Thiesson in 1844, only a few years after photography entered the modern world.
The historic image has been carefully restored and brought to life while preserving Daguerre’s authentic historical appearance.
The original portrait is preserved by the Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris.
Follow Real Faces of the Past for more authentic historical photographs, faithfully restored and brought back to life.
