Description

In October 1963, families in 44 Nubian villages began packing. By June 1964 about 50,000 people had left the riverbank their families had farmed for thousands of years, and the new lake closed over the land behind them. What the water did not take is still standing. Along the west bank at Aswan, houses are painted blue, yellow and orange, and many are still roofed the way they were three thousand years ago: mud brick leaning on mud brick, no wood, no formwork. On Heisa Island, about 2,000 people share one school and one doctor, and every trip is made by boat. A few families in Gharb Soheil keep Nile crocodiles at home, the way other people keep dogs. This 4K travel documentary follows what the Nubians carried out with them: a language children now teach back to their parents, weddings that only start at midnight, front doors left openable on purpose, and the temples the world cut into blocks and rebuilt above the flood line. #traveldocumentary #nubia #nubianvillage #Aswan
